  • Like all the best coaches, Urban Meyer is an intense motivator. His players are driven to perform and excel beyond what their peers at other institutions do.

    And it works.

Despite incredible odds and adversity, Meyer's boys are playing for the National Championship tomorrow night.

Entering the season, last Fall, Ohio State had a quarterback that had been amazing the previous season. So good, he was projected to be a Heisman Trophy winner - the best overall college football player - but then everything was derailed. That star player got hurt before the first game of the season. Instead of a Heisman campaign, Meyer had to turn the reins over to an inexperienced player, and expect him to lead the team to victory. But despite a shaky start, the 2nd string backup did just that. He pounded the Big 10 conference and finished the season in the running for the Heisman himself, having broken single-season records for OSU.

    But then it happened again.

The backup was hurt, lost for the rest of the season, and now the 3rd string backup was called to step in - at the peak of the college football schedule! Asked to play for the conference championship and deliver a victory, and he did. Asked to go on and win the Sugar Bowl against the #1 team in the country, and he did.

And tomorrow this backup of the backup is leading his team once more.

Does that inspire you? I know it inspires me. I'm looking forward to the challenge of being above average in what I do for my clients and my readers.

    And for my children.

If you listen to +Jeff Sieh when he ends some of his +Manly Pinterest Tips hangouts, he'll close with a line that seems almost self-deprecating. He talks about how good the guests have been and then says he hopes the host (him) has been above average.

    That sounds good to me.

  • In pictures: Inside Hang Son Doong, the world's largest caves in Vietnam

At more than 200m high, 150m wide and 5km long, the Hang Son Doong cave in Vietnam is so big it has its own river, jungle and climate. Australian photographer John Spies, 59, spent a week photographing the natural wonder of the cave system. "With ceilings towering over 200 metres high in places, the cave is a humbling and belittling experience," said John, who has lived in Thailand since 1977 and runs the Cave Lodge guesthouse.
